How Are Braces Put On?

MBO Indirect Bonding

The process of putting braces on

The process of getting braces is a lengthy process which includes prepping /cleaning the surfaces of your teeth, placing on the braces, and inserting the wire and ligature tie at the end. Placing braces onto your teeth does not hurt. We will place your new orthodontic appliances using an indirect bonding technique, which includes your choice of either metal or clear ceramic brackets, onto your teeth.

Once the braces are placed onto your teeth, an archwire will be placed onto your braces with ligature ties. Instructions will be given on how to take care of your braces as well as the types of foods that you must avoid (such as bubble gum, nuts, taffy, etc).

How is indirect bonding different from direct bonding of braces?

Traditionally, each individual bracket is placed directly on your teeth one at a time. Some offices still do it the traditional way. In our office, we use an indirect bonding technique. This technique is a much faster, more precise and efficient way of placing braces on your teeth. We will take dental impressions of your teeth. Then our orthodontists will carefully treatment plan your case and create your custom indirect bonding trays. Your next appointment, we will use the indirect bonding trays to place braces on.

In this video, we demonstrate the process of putting braces onto the teeth. Getting braces is one of the most exciting moments in your life! It marks the beginning of a new journey you are about to embark – a journey to a better smile!
